My Musical Education Background
I have a BM in piano from the University of Delaware and MM degrees from New England Conservatory (music theory) and Ohio State University (choral conducting). I was a piano instructor at Georgian Court College, 1978-9. I have professional experience as a vocalist and on piano, organ, harpsichord and recorder.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Doors To Music is not your grandma's piano lessons! These are CLASSES for children, STARTING age 4 - 6! I combine piano with singing, listening and percussion. AND PARENTS - you're part of the class, too - as companions and fellow learners. You don't have to know how to play to help your children in this program (but you might learn).
Why do all these things differently? Because it's best to start children in music in their formative years, and this is the best way to get young learners started! There's fun, variety and friendship in our classes. Children learn to play TOGETHER and play FOR each other. The mix of activities is designed to teach students the fundamentals of music FOREVER - just as they absorb their language forever.
Lesson Rates
$85 per month of 50 - minute classes. It works out to $22.97 per class, because our calendar runs from Sept. to June. Summer programs may be available.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Doors To Music starts children at ages 4 - 6, but once they've started the program they can continue longer. There 9 semester levels in the program (so far!), so they can continue most of the way through the single digit ages.
