About Me
I am trying to grow my piano business. I have a music certificate in Piano Pedagogy and Literature, and equvilent minor in music, and am a Licensed Kindermusik teacher. I have been teaching for a total of ten years in different states, but have been teaching in Racine for the last five years. I find teaching rewarding, and I now have the time to take on more students, my children are grown and I am out of college. I have my own piano studio in my home.
My Musical Education Background
I have played and sang in high school, college and church choirs. I have played in music contest, events, and talent shows. I have performed for college auditions, and jurys, but my love is for teaching music. Also as a child I have played in many recitals. I have a music certificate in Piano Pedagogy and Literature, from Parkside University, I also have the equivalent of a music minor from Parkside University, I have taken all the classes and did well in them. I am a licensed Kindermusic teacher. I have been teaching a total of ten years, the last five years for every week.
Genres and Subjects Taught
My first love and specialty is for classical music. This is what I was taught, for many years and really enjoy. I do teach some jazz, also and pop. I teach all major and minor scales, piano theory, and reading music. I teach the middle C method. When a student starts they will need to purchase a theory book, a scale book, a method book, and a performance fun book. I have a few different method books I use depending at the age of the student, and if they can read music or not. Adult students have a lot more input with my teaching of them, it depends if they want to go to college for music, or just do it as a hobby. Some adult students who already know the basics of piano just want to brush up and only come everyother week, that is fine.
Lesson Rates
I charge fifteen dollars a lesson, I have not raised my rates for three years. I teach for a half an hour once a week. I order your books online once we determine your skill, you pay me back when the books come in.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach ages six, up to seventy, if you have the desire to learn I know I can teach you.
My Certifications and Awards
I have listed my certifications already, as far as awards I earned music awards for contests I was in when I was younger. When I attended college I earned a music award for tutoring music students. I have helped the music teacher at Jerstad school this year, and also have filled in for music teachers at private elementary schools in the past.
My Musical Influences
I have had three main music mentors in my life. The first was Mrs. Hantoy, who was the best music teacher I ever had in my younger years. She was hungarian, and very hard, I learned so much with her, I am sure she has long passed on. My second great mentor is Marilyn Justus who taught me theory and helped get me ready for my college audition. My last mentor is James Mckeever, who was my college piano music teacher and always had faith in me and made me want to always do my best for him, and my students I had at the time.
