About Me
With a focused yet fun approach, my goal is to help young musicians develop good technique, rhythmic independence, and music reading/theory. I strive to encourage a student’s natural strength (or interest) while maintaining a well-rounded curriculum.
My Musical Education Background
Anna is an experienced band director (10 years) & private lesson piano teacher (15 years). She has a bachelor's in music education from Bob Jones University and received Kodaly instruction from Capital University. She enjoys teaching young musicians! Her professional experience & care for kids will make her a great teacher for your child.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Anna's goal is to help your child be a funtional piano player. Both reading music and playing by ear are helpful skills! Stick with her, and your child will learn to read notes and rhythms on the page and also feel capabable to play tunes like "Happy Birthday" with chords on demand!
Method Books & Supplemental Material:
Anna uses three main sources (1. Succeeding at the Piano, Helen Marlais 2. Piano Lessons, Keveren, Kern, and Kreader 3. Accelerated Piano Adventures, Faber for older beginners). Additionally, Anna welcomes pop tunes, duets, Christian music, or classics that interest the student.

My Musical Influences
I'm thankful for the investment of musicians & caring mentors that God has brought into my life.
Harriet Dickson, my mother, is an excellent pianist who encouraged me in my musical pursuits and pedagody. Her attention to detail makes her playing beautiful.
Dr. Kevin Schempf, clarinet professor at Bowling Green University, invested in me while I was in highschool. Under his teaching, I grew in my confience as a person & musician. I want to inspire kids like he did.
Dr. Bruce Cox, band director at Bob Jones University, worked with students in such a patient, encouraging way. He was inspiring. I like to emulate in my own teaching the example that I learned from him.

My daughter really enjoyed her piano lessons with Anna and accelerated much faster than I had anticipated. My daughter actually wanted to go to her weekly piano lessons and practiced with kind encouragement from Anna. I am thankful that Anna made the lessons fun and practical when she was teaching my daughter this lifelong skill. I also appreciated that she included theory in the lessons because that has greatly helped my daughter with other instruments.

Anna is wonderful! She is so patient and kind, and teaches to each of her students' interests. My daughter is in her 2nd year of piano, and I love how her love of music has grown in that time! We recommend Anna to anyone and everyone who is looking for a private music teacher.

Anna is truly a gifted musician and a remarkable person. Lessons were always a time my son looked forward to! Our time together never felt rigid or stressful. Instead, it felt more like play than learning! It was exactly the approach needed to give my son confidence and comprehension of musical skill and theory. I highly recommend Anna for students of any age!

I had no idea where to look for a piano teacher when my 9 year old daughter showed interest in learning to play. I asked around our homeschool community and Mrs. Anna was one of the recommendations. I picked her because she was closest to where we lived… and now I can’t imagine if I had gone with someone else what we would have missed out on! Mrs. Anna is such a gift to both of my daughters. She is the most patient and kind instructor I have met. She is excellent with children. My daughter has learned so much in the past year she has been taking lessons and most importantly she is developing a LOVE for piano and never dreads going to lessons. I am so impressed by what she has learned. We have musicians in our family who have commented on our daughter’s technique and approach and have said they can tell she has a really great instructor who is doing the right things. We’ve loved it so much that my other daughter started taking some fun general music lessons with Mrs. Anna this summer too (she’s still exploring instruments). Mrs. Anna is a gem, don’t miss out on your child learning from her!

Anna is magic. She has a way with my child like no other adult. She keeps her entertained and calm the entire lesson (which is difficult for little ones!) and my daughter always comes home having learned an incredible amount each lesson. Anna is so patient and truly knows how to talk to and work with children. She is so kind and genuinely interested in the lives of others. I would recommend Anna to anyone starting or looking to continue piano. We are so grateful that we met her a year ago!! She’s the best!

Anna is an amazing teacher! My son Jack began lessons with her last year, and it's been so fun (for him and me) to witness his growth as a young pianist. Like most kindergarteners, Jack sometimes struggles with attention, but Anna's patience and ability to engage with hi thoughts during moments of distraction are remarkable. Most importantly, Jack enjoys his lessons with Anna. I couldn't recommend her more highly.
