About Me
I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.A. in English Literature and a degree in elementary education. I have played piano for thirty years and began teaching eighteen years ago. In addition, I have studied violin and voice, basic guitar, and have accompanied for church choirs. I am a member of our local (NDMTA), state (DSMTA), and national (MTNA) associations, and hold certification in piano as a National Certified Teacher of Music from MTNA.
Genres and Subjects Taught
*Edit* As of March 2013 I have a wait list with 6 people and am no longer adding to the list. Please see my website for other referrals or more details.
Lessons with me are classically based, with a strong emphasis on theory and technique combined with good repertoire from all eras. I love teaching improv and basic composition and harmonization, as well! I believe that every person can gain something from piano lessons, whether lessons are merely a stepping stone to other instruments, or the sole dedication of one's musicianship. While my ultimate goal is to help people become independent musicians, I can tailor my teaching to each student's needs. So if you are an adult that has always wanted to play "Fur Elise," or a student who only needs to play piano so you can get on to those drums in band, I can happily help you. I love all the eras of music, from Bach to rock.
Please also visit my webpage for my "official" teaching philosophy. : )
