About Me
Barbara Klipp has a Bachelor’s degree in music (flute performance with a minor in keyboard) from Illinois Wesleyan and a Master’s degree in music from DePaul University, also in flute performance. She is the piccoloist in the Elmhurst Symphony (since 1995) and has served as a university music instructor for over 15 years, currently on the music faculty of the College of Lake County, as well as maintaining an active private studio, Encore Music Studio, since 1984. She is a frequent judge for many state and regional flute competitions. She has also the served on the pedagogy committee of the National Flute Association and has taught in and served as a clinician and chamber music coach at many Chicago area high schools including Libertyville, Lake Forest, Deerfield, Highland Park, Maine East and Elgin High Schools.
As a solo recitalist, she has performed frequently in both the US and Europe after her solo recital debut in 1997, when she was awarded a solo recital at the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. She has been featured on live broadcasts on WFMT classical radio in Chicago and has been published in Flute Talk Magazine. Ms. Klipp has studied the flute with world-renowned flutist, William Bennett and was a member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra (The training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Ms. Klipp has served as president, program coordinator and director of competitions for the Chicago Flute Club, was the executive director of the William Bennett International Flute Masterclasses in the Chicago area.
My Musical Education Background
I have a Bachelor of Music in flute performance with a keyboard minor from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Music in flute performance from DePaul University.
My instructors include the world-renown flutist, William Bennett (Royal Academy of Music, London Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Academy of St. Martin in the Field), Mary Stolper, Victoria Jicha and Joan Marie Bauman.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach classical musical instruction and performing on both flute and piano. I play the piccolo in the symphony, so that is also an area of focus as well. I coach musicians on stage presence and teach music theory and music history.
Lesson Rates
My lesson rates are an all-inclusive monthly tuition (including accompanists, recitals, recital tickets, parties, incentives...) which ranges between $122 per month - $140 per month for a 30-min lesson. The only additional fees would be for sheet music.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach students from 4 years of age and up including adult students. All levels of experience.
My Musical Influences
All of my teachers and colleagues have had a positive influence in my musical (and personal) life. All of my private teachers have been a tremendous influence both musically and their generosity of of time and talents. My colleagues in the symphony have all shaped my musical interpretations as well. If I had to single out one person, it would probably be William Bennett (AKA WIBB) who has had an incredible influence on my as a performer, teacher and compassionate and passionate person. He is an incredible musician and human being and I am grateful for all of the time we have had together.
My students have all influenced me as well, perhaps more personally than musically. Being a music teacher, I have had the great privilege of teaching many students from their young childhood through college and still have the huge pleasure of their visits upon returning home for a time. I am so very proud of ALL of them!
