About Me
Being from New Bern, NC, and an alum of East Carolina, I wish to use my training to enrich the area musically by performing, promoting, and, primarily, teaching music. I graduated summa cum laude from ECU in 2020 with a Bachelor's degree in music, with a concentration in piano pedagogy. I also am a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano under National Music Teachers Association. I have 10 years of teaching experience. I also serve as president of East Carolina Music Club and am the chairperson for the area's annual Federation music festival.
I priortize teaching holistically; the students learn their repertoire, but we do not neglect to study musical skills like ear training, theory, music history, technique, sightreading, transpostion, and improvisation. I welcome the studying of music from a 500 year span: Classical, pop, Christmas, extended technique, etc. and that includes original piano solos as well as arrangements and transcriptions. I have five years experience of entering students in various adjudication festivals, like Federation, NCMTA, and Guild. I welcome students who want to play for critique and to compete and those who do not. Additionally, in regards to age, I welcome students who are just beginning to learn how to read, and those who are in busier later stages of life.
Philosophically, I understand music to be a humanitarian artform, and its primary goal is to benefit the lifes of those who engage with it. Therefore, I strive to teach in a student-centered environment, in which I guide and make suggestions and the student makes discoveries and decisions. The student's curriculum will always be tailored to their goals, preferences, and interests.
