About Me
My formal training started in 1975-6, under the instruction of Mr. Tony Collova of Racine, WI. I was around 12 or 13 years old. I took lessons from Tony for about two and a half years. Once I got into high school, I studied music theory, jazz and music history classes. By 1979, I was very active in many of the bands in high school. And even though the guitar was my first instrument, I started practicing and playing bass guitar in my high school band. This band was called "Horicon Horn Band (HHB)". The bass guitar quickly became my identity. I took part in many school music projects, studio projects, productions and plays, under the direction of Al Clausen (also from Racine). In 1980-81, the HHB worked on a studio vinyl record album project. That project would become my very first "real" studio work. Over the passed few decades, I have worked in numerous bands and studio projects. My music repertoire grew. My experience with recording my own projects and other bands, was something I really enjoyed. In 1996, my friend Mike suggested I consider instructing at the local Thoroughbred Music store, to pick up some extra cash. By the following year, I had a handful of students. Sam Ash eventually bought out Thoroughbred. I had a good list of students by then. Corporate decisions were made, and all of the instructors were asked to discontinue doing lessons in that store. This meant we all had to find other ways to do lessons. A few of my students had their lessons done in their homes. Most of my students were at the store. I ended up doing lessons at a local church from about 2000-2004. I eventually left that facility to continue lessons at a local music teaching school. Unfortunately, that store only lasted a couple of months due to excessively poor management. I realized that my one and only option was to do all of my lessons in the homes of the students. It was clear to me that parents were much more inclined to pay a little extra for the convenience to have me come to their homes, rather than deal with traffic and weather themselves. This has been the way I have done lessons, ever since. I enjoy meeting new people, students, parents. I love what I do. I know that I have made a difference in the lives of many of the students I have known over the years. I hope you will consider me as your private guitar or bass guitar instructor.
My Musical Education Background
I have been a working musician for most of my life. I started my formal guitar lessons when I was 13 years old. I was active in many school music and band projects including the recording and printing of a band vinyl album in 1980-81. I was very active in many other projects, music theory classes and bands outside of high school. I started practicing the bass guitar in 1979 and utilized what I had learned from the guitar toopen a whole new world of bass guitar to my playing. I was known as "Dave the Bass Player" throughout my years in high school and eventually took on the nickname "Guitarski".
I became a guitar and bass guitar teacher in 1996 at a local music store in Orlando, Floirda. I went on to work at various other music stores, ultimately deciding to become a private "in-home" instructor exclusively for my students. I have instructed beginner and intermediate students from ages 11 years and up. I have instructed close to 2000 students over a twenty plus year period.
I love being a music teacher. I enjoy meeting new students and look forward to every lesson with my students.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I instruct beginner and intermediate lessons for electric and acoustic and bass guitar. Genres covered range from the blues to rock and roll to country to jazz. Classic rock is the most fun for my students as it has opened up a whole new library of old music for my younger students. Country is great for acousitc guitar students. Some students like to improvise with the blues while other more intermediate students like to dabble in learning how to play jazz.
