About Me
Hi, I am Doris May. I teach a variety of instrument and voice. Most frequently requested are piano, violin/stringed, flute, and other band instruments.
I am in the 77385 zip code.
My experience includes 55 years of making or teaching music. I have taught all ages from 3 to 90. My instructions included School bands, choirs, general music, and church choir director.
Recently, for the last two years, I directed the Conroe Music Teacher's Assn. elem. piano ensemble with ages 6-12. This year's ensemble had 27 students. They performed at the Houston Hyatt Regency ballroom before thousands of people in beautiful costumes. Wonderful memories for a lifetime were made. I had 4 students of my own to participate in these ensembles.
I am also a member of the Woodlands Concert Band, 6 years, and the Houston Flute Choir, 10 years. Both have web pages you can view.
I am an active member in The National Federation of Music, CMTA, TMTA, and NMTA. I am a past member of TMEA, ATSSB, TBA, TCDA, and ATPE. I am presently retired and enjoying teaching one student at a time.
My Musical Education Background
I started playing flute in my 4th grade band. I stayed on through high school, when I received a scholarship s from ETSU/Texas A&M,Commerce and my high school band boosters club. I earned a Bachelor's of Music Education, BME.
I graduated in 1976 and did Master's work in 1977 earning my elementary education teacher's certification. I hold 2 Texas teaching certificates; all-level music education, and Elem. Education.
As a public school educator, I attended 100s of teacher workshops.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I have taught PreK - 6th grades general music, intermediate Language Arts, grades 6-12 Band and Choir. Music Director for a 1A school, and a church choir director.
Lesson Rates
$25 for 30 minutes = 100.00 a month for 3 to 5 lessons a month
$45.00 for 60 minutes= 180.00 a month for 3 to 5 lessons.
A monthly tuition is required with a 100.00 sign up fee.
The lessons are in my home. I live 3 minutes east of I-45 off of hwy 242 in Montgomery Creek Ranch subdivision.-Zip code= 77385
Many opportunities are offered including music club memberships, festivals, competition, performance classes, music theory instruction/testing, and recitals.
Just added Piano Curriculum Series, with PPE(piano proficiency exams) judged by icons of the piano pedagogy in the Houston area. When this Series is completed students earn a high school diploma in music.
Also a member of the Houston Flute Club and Houston Flute choir. Students have a privy to this organization, too.

My Certifications and Awards
BME(Bachelor's of Music Education) Texas A&M Commerce with Master's work in Elementary Education; Member of National Federation of Music Teacher, local club is North Central Houston Tejas Music Club and Conroe Music Teacher's club. My students participate in local and state events. Theory Testing with state recognition, Piano Proficiency Exams, Piano Ensembles, Sonatina events, and Gold Cup Festivals. Much to offer in a friendly environment. Being a retired teacher I have taught over 2000 students in my public school teaching career.
My Musical Influences
I am in gratitude to the wonderful mentors I am working with. I am also a performing member of the Houston Flute Choir, Woodland's Community Band,, Christ Church United Methodist Wind Ensemble/The Woodlands, and I play professionally from time to time. Alle these organizations can be found online.
