About Me
Pianist Gary Mullenax resides in Martinsburg, West Virginia and has been on the adjunct faculty of Shepherd University since 1998. He has also served on the adjunct faculty of the Catholic University of America and Eastern Shore (VA) Community College. Mr. Mullenax has performed solo recitals in the Mid-Atlantic region and has filled in as pianist for the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
Active in a number of professional organizations, Mr Mullenax is recognized as a National Certified Teacher of Music by Music Teachers National Association. He is a founding member of District VI/Eastern Panhandle Music Teachers Association and served as its District Chair. He is currently President of the West Virginia Music Teachers Association. Mr. Mullenax has established centers for the Piano Guild and Royal Conservatory/Carnegie Hall Achievement Program at Shepherdstown. Gary has adjudicated for the Piano Guild, Friday Morning Music Club, and MTNA in numerous festivals and competitions in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Mr. Mullenax serves as Music Director and Organist for the Burke Street Reformed United Church of Christ and Organist for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Halfway, Maryland. He is a member of the American Guild of Organists
My Musical Education Background
Gary holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Glenville (WV) State College. and a Master's Degree in Piano Performance with emphasis in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Iowa. He has also done post-graduate work at the Catholic University of America. Dr. Thomas Mastroianni, Luis de Maura Castro, and Arthur Greene are some of the teachers Gary has studied with.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Classical Piano. The syllabus of the Royal Conservatory of Music is used. Music Theory, Sight Reading and Aural Skills are emphasized.

All of my teachers. 19th Century Romantic Piano Composers Chopin, Liszt, Brahms along with Bach, Mozart, and Ginastera are my favorites. Diversified tastes range from Gregorian Chant and a cappella vocal music to jazz, classic rock, and bluegrass/folk music
