About Me

My studies on the piano began at the age of 4. My experiences with accompanying began at the age of 9 with the elementary school orchestra and band and continued with singing and accompanying choirs through my high school years at Cherry Hill East. I have been teaching piano for over 15 years and playing for 30 years. My teaching career began through the University of Delaware during my freshman year. Upon graduating from college in 2000 I started my company; HMS Music. I have a true passion for teaching and performing music. My services offer piano, keyboard, and music theory lessons in the comfort/convenience of your home or in my studio. I teach children and adults of all ages and abilities. I am always looking for new challenges and approaches to make learning fun for my students. Looking forward, my goal is to get my students involved in the technology aspect of things and even help them begin to compose music.

I am also a performer. I give gratis performances at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I am available to perform for your wedding, cocktail hour, as well as other private parties and events. You can find out more information about me through my website.

My Musical Education Background

I am a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelors in Piano Performance. I took 6 semesters of music theory and ear training as well as 8 semesters of music history. I have extensive training in teaching piano to children and adults on all levels. My first teachings began at the University through their Community Music School. I also studied accompanying intensively and was offered several assignments accompanying students singers in the music department as well as the choir that i was involved with. I work with all instruments as well as singers.

Genres and Subjects Taught

All genres from Harpsichord through todays standards are incorporated in my students musical studies. My methods include catering to each students individual needs and learning styles. I am a firm believer in keeping the students musical interests at heart. I will work with a student to whatever desire they hold whether it be for fun or to make it their career as I did.

My Certifications and Awards

In the spring of 1996 I received the prestigious Lillian Weiss Scholarship and Aware following a competition. I also earned scholarships upon attending the music program at The University Of Delaware.

My Musical Influences

My middle school and high school choir instructor Lisa Wilson instilled an appreciation for music in all styles and the ability to hear music through melodies that are sung. She was also a big influence in learning the art of accompanying. My college piano professor Michael Steinberg, is my most prolific musical influences as he has instilled a passion for not only playing music but being able to share my gift of learning how to play with my students. My biggest musical influences of today of course are all my wonderful and talented students.

Since he was five years old, your dedication, warmth, consistency and obvious love of music have inspired Chris to learn and work hard to play the piano, and to push himself to try increasingly difficult pieces.
