About Me
What I love about music and the arts is that there is always a purpose behind them. My goal as a teacher is to help artists discover the best of their abilities as well as the purpose behind it all. Excellent musicianship takes hard work and diligence. However, I believe work is fun when you are doing what you love, and this allows for both productivity and pleasure during lesson times. Individuality is one of the best aspects of musicianship, and that is why I encourage each of my students to discover their own personal best in what they do. As a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Texas Music Teachers Association, and the Waxahachie Music Teachers Association, I offer state theory testing, seasonal recitals, and performance opportunities to help my students better hone their craft and learn how to enjoy their art through a variety of musical styles, music history, theory and technique.
My Musical Education Background
Heidi Hood, B.A. Vocal Performance and Theater minor, is the owner, coach, and lead performer of Heidi Hood Music & Entertainment. Heidi began her music and acting training at a young age, having studied classical piano since age seven, and voice since age ten. When she was thirteen, Heidi began playing and singing on the church music band. For three consecutive years in high school, she achieved the Outstanding Musicianship Award from the Arlington Music Teachers Association for excellence in piano performance and theory testing. She also competed at the District and National level for Songwriting and Female Vocal Solo in the Assemblies of God annual Fine Arts Festival. At the district level, she was awarded first place for Keyboard Solo; and at the national level, she ranked in the Top Five keyboard performers for two consecutive years before winning National Merit in her final year of competing. Heidi was also awarded first place at the Texas-Wesleyan University Youth-Duo Piano Competition. Heidi currently holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Vocal Performance and a Theatre Minor from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. While attending SAGU, she competed in the Assemblies of God National Fine Arts Kappa Tau Festival, taking first place for Female Vocal Solo and Drama Solo. She was also the solo vocalist for the SAGU Jazz Band and earned the SAGU Actress of the Year Award after her graduation in December of 2013. It was while she was still in college that Heidi began directing children’s musicals and teaching piano and voice lessons. Shortly after she graduated, Heidi opened her own studio location. Heidi’s theatre credits include Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins), Queen Elizabeth I (The Pirate Queen), Marian Paroo (The Music Man), Yente (Fiddler on the Roof), M'Lynn Eatenton (Steel Magnolias), Carrie Watts (Trip to Bountiful), Margaret Dashwood (Sense and Sensibility), among others. She has also taught theatre for the SALT Educational Coop, and served as the Music Director at Love Your City Theatre. Heidi married her SAGU sweetheart in May of 2016, and continues to teach music from her studio and perform around the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. HEIDI HOOD IS BACKGROUND CHECKED BY CLEAR STAR.
