About Me
Hi, I'm Jennifer Jackson!
I am new to Boulder and looking for students, but NOT new to piano teaching! I've been teaching music and piano for almost 30 years now and would love to help you on your music journey! I am currently teaching in my home in Boulder, but could come to your home or possibly teach online as well. Connect with me and we can get started!
My Musical Education Background
Music has been my passion since I started piano at six years old! I went to Interlochen Arts Academy for high school and graduated with a degree in Music from Yale University. I then became certified in the Kodaly and Orff methods and began teaching music in schools as well as private piano.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I help kids (and adults!) get a solid foundation in piano technique, music reading, and music theory -- as well as playing by ear, lead sheets, and composition for students that are interested. I think piano is the perfect instrument to start with because it is so visual, so easy to make a good sound, and as long as the instrument is in good tuning, you don't have to worry about intonation! While I am classically trained, I embrace many styles -- I like to find out what people want to play and go from there.

My Musical Influences
Two of my biggest musical influences were my beloved piano teachers, who got me started and taught me so much!
I have also always sung (since the age of 7!) with other people (except during the shut down, which was horrible!) My college HOME was the Yale Glee Club and I still enjoy going to reunions every 5 years. Throughout my life I have always found places to sing (choirs, bands, musical theater).
I also love listening to music of all different types and genres. As far as piano goes, I spent a LOT of time as a student listening to the piano classics: Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, but I also love listening (and swing dancing!) to jazz and many other styles.
