About Me
I teach Comprehensive Vocal Music Education, including:
Healthy, Organic Singing Technique; Sight-Reading; Vocal Anatomy & Hygiene; Foreign Language Diction; Music Theory; Musical & Dramatic Interpretation; etc.
I have won many awards, both for singing and teaching, including honors from the Grammy Foundation and the American Prize, and am a regionally-recognized pedagogue, technician, and diagnostician. My students are high-performing, earning multiple yearly chairs in the Texas All-State Choirs, winning gold medals and Outstanding Performer Awards from Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest, as well as receiving nominations for Tommy Tune Awards, etc.
My studio is outfitted with a wide array of anatomical charts, tools, books, medical models, and other helpful and educational materials that other teachers simply do not possess, and the accompanying knowledge to use them to help the student more quickly improve. Unlike most teachers, training singers is my main profession, and as such, I take it--and my own constant education and improvement--very seriously...I'm even a Texas Certified teacher with years of classroom experience.
I care a great deal about my students and their vocal improvement, and do whatever I can to help them succeed!
My Musical Education Background
Louisiana State University - Bachelor of Music - Voice, Conducting, Pedagogy, Music Theory, Music History, Alexander Technique
University of Houston Moores School of Music - Master of Music - Voice, Pedagogy, 20th Century Theory, Opera History, Acting for Singing
State Board of Education - Texas Teacher Certification - EC-12 Music Education
Rice University - College-Level Teaching Credential
Genres and Subjects Taught
In addition to the skills and subjects listed above, I'm fluent in most genres, including: Classical, Broadway, Pop, Rock, Gospel, R&B, and Country.
Once a student knows how their voice works and has gained decent control of their instrument, it is fairly easy to switch between styles!
Lesson Rates
I prefer to teach 45-minute or 1 hour lessons, but will schedule a student for 30 minutes if they are a mature JH student, beginner, or if they have time or financial restrictions.
45-minute lessons: $26.25
1 hour lessons: $35
(...and 30-minute lessons are $17.50)
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach serious beginners all the way to pre-professionals and some professionals.
My Certifications and Awards
My most important awards are the successes of my students! Just this year, I had four All-Staters--including two 2nd chairs in Mixed Choir, two Outstanding Performers at State Solo & Ensemble Contest, a commercial music solo contest winner, and a Tommy Tune nominee, just for starters. I've also had national contest winners, number 1's at State, NATS award winners, and a composition student who won the Austin Symphony's Young Composer Contest!
I've also been recognized by the Grammy Foundation for my teaching, and the American Prize as a singer. I've won scholarship and young artist competitions, worked as a soloist as well as a chorister at Houston Grand Opera, won Teacher of the Month several times, and was nominated for Teacher of the Year my first year in public education!
I am a state certified classroom teacher with years of JH and HS experience, am AP certified with two years of Music Theory teaching experience, and am a member of several professional organizations, including the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the Music Teachers National Association.
