About Me
I believe that music is a necessary part of a good education, and that music lessons teach more than music, but the important life skills of diligence, problem solving, listening, analysis, and goal attainment, just to name a few. I do not aspire to create concert pianists. Instead, my goal is to help parents to develop competent and caring citizens who happen to love music and play it well. I am committed to developing every person’s musical potential strengths.
I have 40 years of experience as a music teacher and youth develoment specialist.
My Musical Education Background
I started my training at age 5, and received pedagogue training from the Robert Pace training program as a teen. I was mentored by my own piano teacher, and opened my first studio at age 16. I taught continually through college, where I also accompanied for voice juries in the music department. (the only non-major accepted) I continued to teach a few students during my 30 year career as a youth development specialist for the cooperative extension service, and now I am working toward certification as a Suzuki instructor.
I have completed Every Child Can!, and am prearing to submit my audition (Mozart K331) to continue my training.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I utilize a combination of Suzuki and traditional methods. My studio incorporates private lessons, quarterly master classes and biannual recitals.
