About Me

I am a former classroom teacher who decided to open my own in-home piano studio. I have over 15 years teaching piano to adults and children at all levels. I believe that instruction must be tailored to each students individual needs. I also firmly believe that learning a musical instrument can be fun!

My Musical Education Background

I have taught piano for the last 15 years. I have a degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University.

I am also a Board member of the Michigan Music Association and a member of the Music Teachers National Association.

In addition, I take advantage of the continuing education opportunities offered by the professional organizations I participate in.

Genres and Subjects Taught

I offer lessons for all levels from beginner to advanced. I focus on music theory but also combine ear training.

I include a study of the different genres and time periods of music into the lesson.

All students learn basic songwriting techniques and complete a "song workbook" that demonstrates that they understand the various characteristics of music.

Lesson Rates

I charge $15 per half hour for private lessons

I also offer group lessons ( three students per class) for $10 per hour.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

All ages. Students starting at an early age can expect to learn using a play based learning approach.

Students complete in the annual Michigan Music Association competition. My studio has received numerous awards including over 30 trophies from annual competitions ranging from piano duets, classical, pop, and jazz. Students will have the opportunity to compete for scholarship awards.

I am not a student, however both my children have lessons with Laura for the past 5 years. My daughter is becoming very good at piano, and it has also helped her in her school band learning early how to read music. My sons school grades have improved since he started taking lessons and he likes learning with Mrs. Laura she has made it fun for him as well him learning a very important talent. She individualizes each lesson to the suit the student. Never thought you could use football and piano at the same time.
