About Me
Nestled in a beautiful strip of preserved farmland in Fair Hill, MD, Little Elk Creek Studios is your ticket to musical freedom. We're only 10 minutes from Newark DE, Oxford PA, and Elkton MD! Whether you're looking for private lessons or for a relaxing and professional environment to record your next project, we've got you covered.
When it comes to music lessons, we offer a very modern approach to understanding and playing music. While we understand the importance of technique, our lessons are VERY holistic and we don't pigeon hole our students into a frustrating or demanding regiment. We play to our student's strengths and we use a wide arrange of materials to bring out each student's creative potential.
We have a strong ear-training method as well that makes college-level ear training simple and fun for children as young as 3! Furthermore, we combine our music lessons with our production facilities to help the student create their own songs or practice material. This gives the student a product they can be proud of and share with their family and friends. By learning how to build each element of your own song, we can touch on dozens of musical concepts in a fun and rewarding fashion.
Finally, we strongly encourage parent participation in the lesson. The more the parent understands what the child is learning and working on, the more rewarding practice time at home will be.
My Musical Education Background
For full details on our two main in-house teachers, please visit our website!
For the short versions:
Mr. Rob is a self proclaimed children's Edutainer (educator+entertainer). Since graduating the Music Technology program at New York University, he has taught music at many schools and for many programs throughout Delaware and New York. He is the leader of the children's music group Nature Jams. He is the oldest of seven kids, works with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, with Gymboree Play and Music, with S Music Studio, and is the lead teacher and engineer at LEC Studios. He has been teaching music lessons for 10 years and really enjoys working with kids.
Aaron Poole is the studios lead guitar, bass, and voice teacher. Boasting an extensive performance resume, Aaron has been writing and performing music since 1996. As the son of a kids-song Dad, and classically trained pianist Mom, his lessons cover a wide range of musical topics. While studying Psychology and Music Composition at The University of Delaware Aaron began teaching guitar and voice lessons. This quickly evolved into songwriting seminars and 'big-picture' performance education. One of his most influential philosophies came from the book The Voice As An Instrument (Raymond Rizzo), which takes a more physiological look at what makes good music. As Aaron says, "Just as a guitar needs strings and tuning, so does your arm have tensions and brain need focus." He also teaches Bass and Piano.
Lesson Rates
While we are flexible and happy to meet your scheduling needs, we STRONGLY encourage 1-hour lessons. We use a lot of materials at our studio to reinforce every angle of music education and so the hour goes by very quickly.
1 hour lesson: $45
45 minute lesson: $35
30 minute lesson: $25
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
For children 3 - 5, Mr. Rob offers a very modern and fun approach to ear-training, beginner piano, beginner drums, and music appreciation. Children at this age are more receptive to the language of music than at any other age, and so we focus heavily on fun ear-training games that let the children explore music in a free spirited way.
For children 5 and up, we combine our philosophies of ear-training and technique with song based education. We use the music that the student is really drawn to (either their favorite songs or songs that they themselves write) and we learn about music from there. This keeps them engaged and interested without turning them off from practicing.
For teens and adults, we offer a very practical and rewarding approach to music lessons. It is never too late to learn to play an instrument and we make it fun and easy to digest. You'll be showing off at parties or serenading your loved ones before you know it.

Early L
Newark, DE
June 25, 2012 Rob Young was an employee of the University of Delaware Early Learning Center for 2 years. His position was school age teacher which entailed supervising and teaching children in kindergarten through fifth grade. He has also acted as classroom assistant in our preschool classrooms where the children are aged 3 through five years of age. The University of Delaware Early Learning Center school age program provides before and after school care during the school year and a 10 week full day summer camp. Rob has had the opportunity to work in both the after care and summer programs. Fifty percent of the children in the school aged program are from families of poverty. The Early Learning includes children with a wide range of disabilities, both physical and cognitive. Mr. Young did an excellent job serving children with disabilities. He supported their Individual Educational Plans and planned lessons to meet all the children’s needs. Rob has been a very responsible employee in his tenure at the ELC. He always arrived in a timely fashion in order to prepare his classroom for the children. Mr. Young is a very creative individual and was revealed in lesson planning. He provided creative, engaging and educational student activities each day. He also provided academic support for the children both by helping them with their homework and through individual tutoring. Rob is an excellent musician and often shared his music with the children who responded enthusiastically to his instruction. During his time at the Early Learning Center he grew very strong in his classroom management style. He was dedicated to his students and during his tenure here discovered teaching as his career goal. As his acting supervisor I would highly endorse Rob Young to any future employer particularly those jobs that will be working directly with children. He is a dedicated and industrious worker who would be a great asset to any team. Sincerely, Alene Heider

We feel extremely lucky to have Mr. Rob come into our 2 year old twins lives. Not only is he a very gifted songwriter and musician, but his passion and enthusiasm for teaching and entertaining children is his greatest talent. We love that he helps our girl's explore rhythm and dance in a variety of ways! My girls have learned a great deal from Mr. Rob. They love his original songs, as well as his kid-friendly instruments. Mr. Rob's energy is contagious, and we are grateful to him for being the first person in our children's lives to inspire a love for music, Mr. Rob is awesome...we think so and our kids do too!
