About Me

Hi! My name is Matt Motto and I am the owner and founder of Black & White Music Services, Inc., a professional music education and production company.
I began teaching at a fairly early age and moved to teaching privately over 7 years ago. I have a deep passion for music and the guitar and do my best to instill that same passion in new and experienced players alike. Throughout my playing career I have participated in numerous ensembles including jazz bands, classical groups and quartets, as well as solo performance groups. I currently am an active musician playing in a progressive metal band called Dissona.
I am extremely thorough when it comes to my teaching style. I make sure the student has a clear and concise understanding of not only the how but also the why. There are easy ways to do accomplish things on the guitar and there are the correct ways. Unfortunately, what is right is not always easy!
I try to keep my curriculum fun and interesting as well. Every student is different and I do my best to gain an understanding of every individual and build a lesson plan best suited for that individual.

My Musical Education Background

2006 - Taught guitar in local music store

2008-present - Began taking private students which eventually negated the need for teaching in the music store

2011-present - Incorporated my music education with a roster of 30+ weekly students

Genres and Subjects Taught

I teach all genres and playing styles on the guitar! I specialize in jazz, rock, metal, and classical.

Subject matter will include technique, music theory, and song structure.

Lesson Rates

Half hour lesson: $20

Hour Session: $35

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

I have experience (and currently) teach all ages from 6 years and up. No one is too old for the instrument, however, children younger than 6 may not have the attention span or discipline to take on the instrument quite yet.

My Certifications and Awards

I have won several awards throughout my playing career. These include accolades from IMEA, SWSC Jazz, and the Lincoln-Way Music Department. I have also received awards for my performances with my current musical group.

Too many to list! Some of my biggest influences are: Led Zeppelin, Pat Metheny, Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert, Symphony X, John Scofield, Frank Zappa, Eric Johnson, and the list goes on...
