About Me
Here are a few important things to help you decide whether we would be a good match.
My teaching style:
- I teach with a great deal of enthusiasm, humor, and positive reinforcement.
- I correct gently when needed, and offer plenty of praise when earned.
- I will always challenge you a bit more than you would like.
- I allow my students to choose music they would like to learn (though I make suggestions to fit goals often).
- I am very punctual, and run lessons on time.
- I aim to create a fun lesson, a great rapport, and a structured environment for maximum growth.
My lesson structure:
- Check-in on practice and a quick Q&A
- Warmup/review
- New material and/or refining/polishing/improving old material
- Practice suggestions
My Specialties
- Children
- Adult Beginners
- Rock (especially classic rock and 90s Rock)
- Blues
- Fingerstyle
- Jazz
- Theory
- Singing
- Arranging
A quick note on these specialties: I love working with children, and adult beginners. Children are just plain fun to teach, be around, and work with. Adult beginners tend to be more open with less pre-conceived notions and expectations, and I find it inspiring to see adults learning something new for themselves. The genres mentioned above are those I consider to be my strongest suits. If you’d like to work in another capacity, send an e-mail and ask me about it. I’ll be happy to let you know how comfortable I am with a particular subject.
Finally, you’ll also find that I’m happy to answer student questions during the course of the week, by text, e-mail, or phone. All scheduling questions will be answered promptly and courteously.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I work with children as young as 3 (and have had success with 3 year olds!) and no upper limit. All skill levels, though if you are an advanced metal or jazz player, I will probably refer you to a teacher that excels in teaching those styles at that level.
My Certifications and Awards
I am trained in the Suzuki method (there is no official certification). Was a teacher trainer (I trained the other teachers to be better teachers) at the NYC Guitar School before relocating to Birmingham. There are generally no awards or certifications for guitar teachers, being a somewhat non-regulated industry.
My Musical Influences
I've been through quite a few musical phases in my life. I grew up with 90s Rock and Grunge, went through a pretty extensive blues phase, played some jazz in college and settled on fingerstyle. A bit all over the map.
