About Me
Thank you for your interest in The Dixson Studio of Music. In an era where public and private schools are eliminating music and the arts, it is encouraging to have individuals who recognize the importance of music in the development of students. I have extensive experience teaching both voice and piano including 14 years as a private teacher and 5 plus years of classroom experience educating kindergarten through twelfth grades.
My academic career has focused on music culminating in two Master’s degrees; one in vocal performance and one in music education. Additionally, I have completed many Graduate courses at the University of Cincinnati in Speech Pathology focusing on voice and received a Certificate in Vocology from the National Center for Voice and Speech through The Denver Center of Performing Arts and Iowa University.

A more comprehensive instruction in aural theory, history and in-depth theory are offered in a group setting on Fridays.
Lesson Rates
Lessons start at $20 for a 30 minute private lesson. Professional student lessons are $50 for an hour of instruction. As music theory and history supplement the learning process, group lessons in these areas are offered at $25 for an hour on Fridays.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Piano students: I will accept from age 4 (as long as they can count to 4 and know their alphabet) through adult.
Voice students: Due to the difficulties of the changing voice, I accept students from appx. age 11 through adult, I will accept children under 11 on a case by case basis.
My Certifications and Awards
Certificate of Vocology: Denver Center for Performing Arts and University of Iowa, August 2002
My Musical Influences
Although I am classically trained in piano and voice, I do have varying tastes. I have sung and played musical theater and jazz as well as pop and enjoy listening to all styles of music, including world music. I teach many styles of voice and piano and am willing to try anything new that comes my way!
