My Musical Education Background

Ann LeVan holds the following degrees:
Associate of Arts degree in Piano Performance from N/E Mississippi Junior College; Bachelor of Music Education degree from Union University - in Jackson, TN; & Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from University of Memphis.

Genres and Subjects Taught

Teaching someone to play the piano means not only covering the basics so that the student can actually play a "song", "piece", or "tune", it mandates building on that foundation so that a multitude of genres can be explored.

When it comes to "GENRES", the key is: can the student LEARN from the experience of studying a particular piece. Gospel & Church Music, Pop & showtune songs, some light rock, and many light classics contribute to the students understanding and technical ability. I completely understand that the enjoyment factor of playing a piece of music is directly related to the players interest in that kind of music.

Yes, I do incorporate some music theory into the learning process; without it, the learning process is compromised because the student doesn't understand what the music is really saying to us.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

My students have ranged in age from as young as 5, to adult students: some of whom had lessons as children, and some of whom had always wanted to take lessons but couldn't for a multitude of reasons.

I enjoy molding beginners, shaping intermediate players, and working with advanced students; each level has it's challenges and rewards for both the student and the teacher.

My Certifications and Awards

Ann taught for the Music Education division of the Baldwin Piano & Organ Co. in Cincinnati from 1982 thru 1995. Ann was a private piano teacher at the Toedtman School of Music until she co-founded LeVan/Rayburn Studios in 1986.

With 30+ years of traditional private piano teaching experience, coupled with having held positions as organist, pianist, and choir director at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist, Lockland Christian Church, Loveland United Methodist Church and Blue Ash Presbyterian Church, Ann LeVan has established herself as one of Northern Cincinnati's most sought after piano teachers.
