Genres and Subjects Taught
My guitar, violin and ukulele students are taught many kinds of music including classical, contemporary, celtic, rock and roll, blues, country, jazz, oldies and the latest hits of the day. Ofcourse, most students get started with a good musical foundation of reading music and learning how to keep proper timing as well as how to hold their instrument and to maintain proper posture.
Lesson Rates
The fee for my lessons is $40.00 per half hour. If a parent or student wishes to purchase 5 lessons at a time, I offer 2 additional lessons at no charge. The same applies to 60 minute lessons which cost $60.00. All music in included in my fee unless a student requests a special book of a favorite artist or group.I do not require a contract of any kind.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
For guitar and ukulele students, I like to start them at 7 years of age, plus or minus. Hand/eye coordination is very important in learning to play and understand the concept. Seven is usually the magic number. For violin students, I like to start them as young as 5 years old. The reason is learning to play the violin the student only has to play one string (note) at a time. With guitar or ukulele, sometimes 2, 3 or even 4 fingers at a time are needed to play a chord. Regardless of a students age, my instruction is calm, understandable, goal oriented and fun.
My Musical Influences
Over the years, I've covered all the basses. On guitar I admire Tommy Emanuel, Vince Gill, Doc Watson and a host of others. My favorite ukulele players are Jake Shimabukuro, Eddie Kamae, Genoa Keawe and George Harrison. My favorite violinists range from Perlman to Joshua Bell, Jay Unger, John O'Conner, Hilary Hahn,Anne Sophie Mutter and maybe a hundred more!
