About Me

Hello!

I am a resident of Georgetown, KY and I offer private music lessons in my home studio. I have been teaching since 2004 and have enjoyed the many diverse students who have studied with me!

I have also enjoyed working in my community by providing piano accompaniment for a local elementary school choir. I am currently Lead Pianist/Music Director at The First Wesleyan Church in Lexington.

I am dedicated to providing each student with a solid musical foundation based on sight-reading, rhythm and technique. Each lesson is tailor-made for each student's unique needs and strengths! It is my ultimate goal to instill in my students, the love of music for a lifetime!

Students prepare and perform in two Recitals each year and a select group of students perform each year in the Georgetown Piano Festival (a division of the National Federation of Music Clubs).

My Musical Education Background

**11 years private piano instruction, 3 years at the collegiate level

**3 years enrolled in BA Church Music, God's Bible School and College, Cincinnati, OH. Piano Major/Voice Minor

**3 years collegiate piano study with Martha Miller and vocal study with Nicolae Pop

**Studied under the choral direction of Garen Wolf. Participated and traveled with college choir. Studied classical choral music by participating and performing with the college Oratorio Choir.

**10 years experience teaching piano and voice in my private home studio.

**Dedicated to self-study by keeping abreast of the latest advances in the field of piano pedagogy.

Genres and Subjects Taught

**Traditional piano, which focuses on the teaching of note-reading/rhythm/technique needed for the ability to play all genres of music.

**Beginning students study from the Piano Adventures series by Nancy & Randall Faber. As students advance, we take a more classical approach, regularly studying music from each period of Music History: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th-Century. Learning and understanding the techniques and styles to properly perform each period stylistically.

**Various other music is studied: Pop, Blues, Rock, Jazz, Rag, Hymn, etc.
It is my philosophy that instilling a solid musical foundation enables the student to perform well in any genre of music.

**Vocal study in the Bel-Canto or 'beautiful singing" style. Vocal students begin by establishing the essential skills of singing and vocal health.

**All genres of vocal music studied are based on the needs and interests of the individual student.

Lesson Rates

**30-minute Private Piano Lesson, once a week, is $80/month.

**30-minute Private Voice Lesson, once a week, for ages 7-12, is $80/month.

**45-minute Private Piano Lesson, once a week, is $100/month.

**45-minute Private Voice Lesson, once a week, for ages 12-Adult, is $100/month.

**A Family discount is available for families with 2 or more students enrolled.** Contact me for rates.

**Lessons are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

***All Lesson Materials are purchased by the student.***

***A $25, one-time, yearly Music Library fee will be collected each September or at time of enrollment.***

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

Piano lessons are available to students ages 5 - Adult.

Voice lessons are available to students ages 7 - Adult.

My Certifications and Awards

I hold certification as a Nationally-Certified teacher of Music (NCTM) through the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).

My Musical Influences

I enjoy several genres/types of music! My favorite Romantic-era composer is Clara Schumann. I also greatly enjoy the musical genius of Impressionistic composers, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. I enjoy the jazz compositions of Vince Guaraldi (Charlie Brown and Snoopy!) and Henry Mancini (Pink Panther)Honestly, I adore all piano music!

My favorite female vocalist is the beautifully effortless voice of Karen Carpenter.

When I like to have fun, I listen to The BeeGees!
