About Me
I have been teaching for over 30 years. I love to teach students of all ages. My education is classical in nature and this is how I approach my lessons, but I also mix in current music that is of interest to each particular student. I have also been a church musician for over 40 years. I studied with the Dr. Perkins, Head of the Music Department at Eastern Montana College, now Montana State University, Billings. I have also studied with Dr. Peggy Daugherty, a concert level pianist. I have a Certificate in Piano Pedagogy from Valley City State University in North Dakota.
My Musical Education Background
I began lessons at age 8 and took private lessons until age 18. My first private teacher was a student at the Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore, MD. Later I took lessons at Warner Pacific College in Portland, OR. My teacher there was a concert level pianist. I finished my private lessons from the Department Chair at Montana State University in Billings, Montana. I recently earned a Certificate of Piano Pedagogy from Valley City State University.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I like to introduce my students to a variety of music. As soon as they are capable, I try to find music that they want to play in addition to the standard teaching literature.
I also feel music theory is important. This will give students a broad ability to read and understand music. This has allowed several of my students to add other instruments as they progress in school. They find it helps them learn the other instrument quickly and have had good comments from band directors in school.
Lesson Rates
Tuition is a monthly fee. This is for 4 lessons per month. If there is a 5th lesson that month, you get it free.
In my home: $80 for 30 minutes lessons, $120 for 45 minutes, $160 for 60 minutes.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Age 7 - adult.
My Certifications and Awards
I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association and Tennessee Music Teachers Association.
Certificate of Piano Pedagogy from Valley City State University.
My Musical Influences
I love all styles of music: Classical, Pop, Country, Jazz, Show Tunes, Hymns, and Contemporary Christian having grown up with a wide variety of music in my home. I try to find the kind of music that inspires my student. My students are excited when they discover that they can play music they like along with their lesson music.
