About Me

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years to children ages 7 and up as well as youth and adults. I especially like to teach beginning singers who are in high school. Many of my students have gone on to careers in music.

Once per academic year I have "Saturday Sundae Parties" for my piano students in which we play our songs for each other and then make (and eat!) ice cream sundaes. Great fun!

In June, there is the annual music concert which my students give for one another, their parents and friends.

Payment for lessons is by the month, due at the first lesson. Absences are not excused except for emergencies. However, if I cancel I will give you credit for the lesson. We follow the public school calendar September to June.

All genres of music is taught: classical, jazz, pop, and in the case of piano, the chord method by which students may learn to play by ear.

Voice lessons teach proper breathing, projection, reading music, ear-training (singing in tune). I do not teach a pop style. The object of the lessons is to find the student's true, clear voice and healthy technique which will allow the person to sing anything he/she wishes to and well. Show tunes, light classical and art songs are used for study.

Please google Joan Nahigian to visit my website. I am also known as Joan Appel, which is my professional name as an artist.
