About Me
I was born and raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Music has always been a part of my life. At a very young age my parents discovered that I could play melodies on the piano that I had heard only once. I began formal training when I was nine and have never looked back!
I received a B.A. in Music from Manhattanville College, where during my senior year I won a Concerto Competition and performed with the Community Orchestra. I have extensive experience accompanying choirs, playing with chamber groups, and performing solo.
After teaching full-time in a music school for three years, I began building my own private studio. I currently teach an average of 25 students per week, and I offer lessons either in my home in Stamford, or in your home in select towns in Westchester and Fairfield counties.
My Musical Education Background
Long Island University - Hudson Graduate Campus: Master's of Education in School Counseling, 2012.
Post-Baccalaureate program, Columbia University. 2009-2010. Studied music theory and music history.
B.A. in Music, Piano Performance, Manhattanville College. Graduated May 2009. Studied piano with Francis Brancaleone.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I have 9 years experience teaching piano lessons to students of all ages and levels. The youngest student I have taught was 3 1/2, but at this time I only take students that are at least 6 years old. On the other end of the spectrum, I have taught students in their 60s and 70s! It is NEVER too late to begin taking lessons. Additionally I have worked with children with special needs and have some experience teaching students with autism.
I am classically trained but can also teach pop/rock and other styles. I do believe that a classical foundation is important. I do not use one method across the board; rather I tune in to each student's individual learning style, preferences, and needs, and develop a program suited to the student. Most importantly, I believe that the best way to cultivate musical growth is through creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere. My primary goal for all students is developing a love of music and making the learning process approachable.
In addition to piano, I am trained and can give lessons in music theory, ear training, and composition. I also teach voice lessons to beginners (must be under 16 years old), and can provide vocal coaching/accompaniment.
