About Me
I am an encouraging teacher in my mid-20s with seven years of education experience and a Master's in piano performance. My philosophy is to teach students the kinds of music THEY are interested in, within a framework that equips them with good technique and the ability to approach music independently. Love classical? Cool. Hate it? Also cool.
My approach centers on two fundamentals: ear training so that students learn to understand music as a language; and developing body awareness in relationship to the instrument so that students are able to relax and play fluidly. These two elements are the pillars of enjoyable music-making.
My Musical Education Background
I started playing piano at age 8 and percussion in 9th grade. While a sophomore at Jacksonville State Univerisity, I began teaching front ensembles and collecting a gaggle of private piano and percussion students, who I taught in between my own classes. I studied piano pedagogy extensively during grad school at the University of Alabama. After completing my Master's in 2021, I began teaching piano full-time for a studio in Birmingham, and in the summer of 2022 I settled down in Blountsville with my fiance and began building up my own clientele of piano students. I also work extensively with an award-winning high school percussion program in the northern Birmingham area.
