About Me
I have a doctorate in piano performance and 30 years of teaching experience. My approach is honed to the individual needs, goals, abilities, and interests of each student, maximizing the development of musical understanding alongside a relaxed and appropriate technique and strong reading and theory skills. I have taught at the Hope College, Grand Rapids Community College, and Michigan State University and am also a pedagogy course facilitator, certified teacher, and examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto. I am also MTNA certified, and an active performer, speaker, adjucator, and teacher coach. I have a youtube channel dedicated to practice strategies and a book published by Rowman and Littlefield, "Thinking and Playing Music: Intentional Practice Strategies for Optimal Practice and Performance," which focuses on music cognition and how to use what we know about music learning to develop joyful and beneficial practice strategies at all levels of development.
