About Me
I have taught piano since 1974 when the OPUS 1 piano teaching system was copywritten. It is also known as the WRITE TO READ SYSTEM. OPUS 1 links music to school math. My cousin, Billye-Mullins Smith, was the author and was put into the Washington Congressional Record two summers ago for writing it. She also trained me how to teach it. It is not ROTE taught (memorizing without understanding). You only memorize rules such as the scale, chord, pedal, and improvisation rules. You write in work books, play a computer game, learn 15 major and minor keys not the usual 12 method teachers use. The first book is the Math and Music Book, then the Work Book and Text Book. These books take you around the circle of 15 major and minor keys. You write some of the notes in the Work Book and check your work in the Text Book. There is a Chord Symbols Graphics book, and an Improvisation book. I also record the lessons on audio tape for the student to take home and listen to the lesson again.
Any age can learn if able to write three letter words and write a few numbers. Call (contact me) for a get acquainted meeting.
