About Me
Located at 464 East Main Street, Suite 4, Spartanburg, SC, under The Peddler, and in Lyman, SC. I also have a website called (contact me) which I encourage you to visit.
My Musical Education Background
I studied privately with a local teacher for the first 10 years, attended Converse College as a piano performance major, studied privately with a professor at The University of Houston, and have attended workshops and Master Classes with pianists and educators worldwide.
Genres and Subjects Taught
It is my goal to adapt lessons to each individual. For most beginning students I use the Faber method books which include lesson, performance, theory, & technique. I also supplement with scales, Fingerpower, Hanon, Czerny for the more advanced pianist, the Keith Snell series of books from the Baroque, Classical, & Romantic periods, as well as urtext from the more well known composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, etc. I also use contemporary music from American composers that are listed in the NFMC junior festivals handbook. There are other numerous books and composers that are also selected to fit the musical desire of each student. I teach on a Roland HPi-50e digital piano which offers the latest interactive technology for students with computer games that will enrich their learning experiences in both eye and ear training, as well as music composition.
Lesson Rates
I have both 30 and 45 minute lesson times available on Monday and Thursday in Spartanburg.
I teach in my home studio in Lyman on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach all ages and levels. I have taught students as young as 4, depending on maturity, eye-hand coordination, and reading ability. My oldest student was in his 70's.
My Certifications and Awards
I had several students who were NFMC State winners in Texas. All of my students consistently scored Superior in NFMC festivals & competitions.
I was a member of The Gulf Coast Music Association in Houston, Texas, serving as Treasurer for two (2) years, followed by two (2) years as Gold Cup chairperson. This NFMC junior festival qualified students to compete at state level. We had approximately 1,000 students at this two weekend event.
My Musical Influences
My musical influences are too numerous to mention but range from Beethoven & Chopin to Josh Groban, The Tenors, contemporary and country music.
