About Me
I have been teaching piano and organ for 30 years in the Waco area. My goal is to prepare students to enjoy a lifetime of playing music. To this end, I emphasize learning to read well. I also give the students plenty of opportunities to perform, both formally and informally, so that they develop an ease in playing in front of other people. Lastly, I try to have fun at every lesson, both for the student and myself!
My Musical Education Background
I have a Bachelor's of Music in Performance and a Master's of Music in Performance, both in organ, and both from Baylor University. In addition, I have studied with Al Travis at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth. I continue to attend workshops and conferences every year to further my knowledge and keep abreast of new technologies as well as music literature.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach lessons for one hour, with 30 minutes at the piano or organ and the other 30 at the computer lab. Here, students work on theory, sight reading, music history or fun musical games. I will work with a student from age 5 to 100 and anywhere in between!
My Certifications and Awards
I am a current and active member of the National Music Teacher's Association as well as our local Waco Music Teacher's ASsociation. I am also a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Presbyterian Association of Musicians. I have been organist at First Presbyterian Church for 30 years and have led many workshops in organ hymnody and literature.
