About Me
Bethany Lancaster is a performer, teacher, and collaborator based in the Piedmont Triad. She has dedicated herself to learning the harp so that she can help others experience its beauty, and to this end, she received her Masters of Music in Harp Performance at the University of Michigan. Known for her passionate and personal performances, Bethany feels most at home behind her harp, but when she is not playing or teaching, you can find her gardening with her husband or reading with her cat.
My Musical Education Background
Having studied music since age six, Bethany Lancaster is passionate about creating beautiful music. She studied piano for the first seven years of her music education and then switched to harp at age thirteen. Since then, Bethany has pursued harp whole-heartedly, earning her Licentiate in Performance through the United Kingdom’s Royal School of Music, her Bachelor of Arts in Music and English with highest honors from Union University in 2017, and her Master of Music in Harp Performance with highest honors from the University of Michigan in 2019.
During her career, Bethany has studied with Helen Rifas, Sally Duran, Carol McClure, and Joan Holland. She has also participated in master classes with Jana Bouskova, Phyllis Adams, Alexandra Katelyn Mullins, and Sivan Magen.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Bethany's goal for each lesson is to equip students with the skills they need to confidently and joyfully play the harp. She welcomes beginners of all ages and teach both lever and pedal harp. For all skill levels, she integrates aural training and theory into lessons so that the student gains mastery over all aspects of music. Bethany's background is in piano, lever harp, and pedal harp, so she has multiple tools for teaching. This includes the two prominent harp methods - French and Salzedo - as well as experience with ABRSM, the British music education system.
