About Me
I have been teaching piano for many years and find I enjoy the open inquisitiveness of children, the eager commitment of young adults, and the courage and spirit of the older adult willing to try something new!
I have been teaching beginning piano and piano proficiency for the music major at Occidental College in Eagle Rock for 11 years.
Although I am a classical pianist, my intention is to teach sight-reading skills, technique, and theory so that the student can pursue whatever genre with ease.
My Musical Education Background
Studied piano with Dr. Erno Daniel at the University of California, Santa Barbara, received a Bachelor of Arts
Studied with renowned pianist Johana Harris at UCLA, received a Masters in Fine Arts in Piano Performance
Summer music history theory courses at Claremont Graduate School
Genres and Subjects Taught
I focus on classical repertoire because I love to introduce the student to well-written and aesthetically satisfying music that leads to good technique and musicianship. The student feels success by having accomplished something challenging, and learns to hear and understand musical concepts.
In addition I work with the student's specific interest, be it pop or musicals or folk, etc.
With young children I also like to start with easy folk songs that they can sing and clap to, thereby building more ear-training skills.
Lesson Rates
I charge $60 an hour; $45 for 45 minutes; $35 for half an hour.
I charge extra for lessons at the student's home, depending upon mileage.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Ages 7 to 70+++!
My Musical Influences
Bach, Debussy, Johana Harris, John Cage, Nicolas Slonimsky
