About Me

I have played the guitar my entire life and never lost my love for it (even when I tried!). I spent several years travelling the Pacific Northwest with different rock bands before going back to university to earn an M.B.A., settling down to a career in financial services, and becoming a husband and father. These days I am a full-time guitar teacher and performer.

My Musical Education Background

I have a bachelor’s degree in guitar from Wichita State University where I studied with jazz guitar legend Jerry Hahn (Rolling Stone magazine called him one of the top 3 jazz guitarists in the nation). From there I traveled to Hollywood, CA where I attended G.I.T. at the Musicians Institute.

Genres and Subjects Taught

My first love has always been rock guitar – rock and roll, hard rock, country rock, rockabilly… you get the idea – but with the guitar there is so much “more to explore”.  Beginners need to learn to crawl before they can rock but everything learned will be for a definite purpose and not just because that’s how it’s always been done. Intermediate students will learn the guitar parts from a variety of songs in order to develop manual dexterity and as a basis for learning theory. Advanced students help develop their own curriculum.

Lesson Rates

Lessons (in your home) are $40 for 40 minutes.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

Children
The guitar is a great friend as it always gives back to us whatever we give to it. It is never unfair. The more we practice, the better we sound. We all need a friend like that at times (regardless of our age). Is the student excited or overwhelmed? Bored or just tired? As a parent, I have a pretty good idea what signals your son or daughter is sending and can adjust the lesson accordingly. Together we’ll all work to make lessons a successful part of their daily routine together with their other activities.

Adults
Whether you have always wanted to play, or you used to play and want to get started again, the guitar is your-time for your-self. Whether that means intensive study or laid back and casual, we’re going to make sure your-lessons fit you.
