About Me
Dr. Gulimina Mahamuti ((contact me) and gulimina (contact me)) enjoys an active career as a pianist and educator with over 25 years teaching experience in the U.S. and China where she originally comes from. She obtained her doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and is the first Uyghur from China to receive a DMA in Piano Performance from the U.S. Dr. Mahamuti performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and extensively in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Turkey, and China, with broadcasts on radio and TV. Her overseas performance in Budapest was at the invitation of the Turkish Ambassador in Hungary, in Istanbul under the auspices of Turkish State Conservatory of Music, in Denmark in 12th Century churches, and in China on multiple occasions. She opened the Music Festival, “A Schoenberg Retrospective,” with Drei Klavierstücke, op. 11 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and played at the opening concert for the “Year of the Nation Turkey” Celebration at Queens College of The City University of New York. Dr. Mahamuti performed piano concertos with the Southeast Kansas Symphony Orchestra, the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra, and the Harbin Symphony Orchestra in China. Her piano playing was featured at many radio stations, including San Francisco Turkish Radio, San Francisco Community Radio, Queens College of CUNY online podcast in the U.S., Touch Radio in China, and Istanbul Technical University Radio in Turkey. Her CD recording, Xinjiang Piano Music from Western China, was released in May of 2012 and features the distinctive ethnic music from western China. Dr. Mahamuti moved to Maine with her husband and their twin boys in May, 2018. She was a part-time Assistant Professor of Piano at Ohio Wesleyan University and maintained an active piano studio in Mansfield, Ohio. Her professional achievements were recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives and by the Celebration of Scholarships at OWU on multiple occasions. Many of her piano students from the U.S. and China became professional pianists and were also competition prize winners. Dr. Mahamuti is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in piano. She served on the boards of OhioMTA and the Central East District of OhioMTA and chairs its Piano Workshops. She was the state of Ohio coordinator of the MTNA Junior/Senior Performance Competition, was the chairperson of the Richland County Chapter of OhioMTA, and was also a board member of the OFMC and chairs the Student/Collegiate Auditions Award for the state of Ohio.
