About Me
Dr Ivona Kaminska belongs to the handful of the most successful and sought-after piano instructors of the Seattle/ Bellevue area. Dozens of her students regularly win top prizes at competitions and festivals, and perform in such prestigious venues as Benaroya Hall, Meydenbaur Center, Frye Art Museum and for the classical radio station, King Fm. Dr Kaminska currently accepts only serious students for whom piano education is the the most important after-school activity and who practice minimum two hours a day every day of the week. Polish born and internationally educated pianist, Dr. Ivona Kaminska was awarded a Master of Arts in Piano Performance degree and the Graduate Artist Performance Diploma from the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, Masters of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as a Doctorate degree from the University of British Columbia, Canada. She has participated in international festivals including the Mozarteum Sommerakademie and in Duszniki-Zdroj. Winner of several solo concerto competitions, and the finalist of the Contemporary Chamber Music Competition in Warsaw, she has appeared on national public radio in Poland and the USA. Among her distinguished awards are the Stefan Batory National Foundation Merit Award in 1993, the Beryl Barnes Music Award in 1998 and 1999, the PhD Scholarship from the University of Alberta in 1998 and 1999, and the Astral Career Development Grant in 2003, among others. Among her influential teachers are Andrzej Stefanski, Tatiana Shebanova, Boris Bloch, Mark Clinton, Henri-Paul Sicsic, and Marek Jablonski. In 2004 and 2005 she published articles and interviews in the Polish music magazine, Twoja Muza, in which she presented a comparative analysis of the music education systems of Poland and the United States, and discussed the tradition of Polish piano playing throughout the history of the International Piano Chopin Competition. In the 2010 she was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal as the President of the Seattle International Piano Festival. Equally passionate as a pedagogue, Dr. Kaminska is the artistic director of the Chopin Academy of Music in Issaquah which focuses on high level music education in piano, violin and cello.
