Have you ever been asked to play something on the piano only to realize that you can’t play a thing without your sheet music? This kind of dependency on reading music is very common, because many people learn the piano by simply playing what they read off the page rather than learning the language of music. Unfortunately, this is like transcribing a text in a foreign language that you have no knowledge of: you type the keys on your computer without understanding the meaning or the reason for the letters you are typing.
Through Jimmy’s guidance, students will learn the language of music that allows them to play by ear, improvise and more easily memorize their favorite pieces of music. Jimmy’s expert knowledge of the body and movement helps students achieve proper posture, hand and finger techniques that make playing the piano healthy and effortless.
Singing Lessons:
Storytelling has always been a part our human history and singing has been one of the powerful ways that tales are told and passed down from generation to generation. In other words, singing is in our human makeup. Instead of being an extension to our body like most musical instruments are, the voice is a part of our body. Everyone has a unique singing voice. This uniqueness can be discovered when the voice is supported below the neck and completely free above the neck.
There is a lot of confusion about what it means to support the voice for singing. As a result, there are many vocal gimmicks out there promising to improve singing. If you are asked to do anything from the neck up to sing better, it is only a gimmick that does not address the root issue and will only create a cascading effect of more problems. These problems will then have to be addressed by more gimmicks. In contrast, through Jimmy’s guidance, students will discover and develop their natural singing voice in a way that is healthy and sustainable for the body.
