About Me
Laura Carskadden, a mezzo soprano and vocal teacher, received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from Peabody Institute and a Bachelor of Arts in Music: Vocal Performance and Bachelor of Science in Psychology from High Point University. She is passionate about the way music connects people, which is why she has chosen to share music with others through teaching. Laura has experience teaching musical theater, contemporary commercial (pop, country, etc.), and western classical technique (opera). In high school (2013 and 2014), she co-directed musicals each summer with elementary aged children. Ms. Carskadden taught at a Montessori preschool from 2019 through 2020 before attending graduate school. While pursuing the Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, Laura taught private Zoom voice lessons the summer of 2021 and in person lessons the 2021/2022 academic year. She has been teaching private voice and piano lessons for ages 4 through adult since graduating from Peabody. She has experience coaching students on their music-specific professional documents, including resumes, repertoire lists, websites, and bios. Here is my website for more information: (contact me)
My Musical Education Background
Come take music lessons with Laura! In addition to her degrees and performance experience, Laura has 3 years of experience teaching piano and voice for all ages as young as 4 up to adult. Join her in learning how to sing musical theater, contemporary music (like pop, country, etc.), or opera! And/or learn piano with a strong basis in harmony and music theory. She strongly believes her role as a teacher is mainly to motivate and guide her students in the right direction. Psychology says you need at least five words of encouragement for every criticism in order for improvement to occur. Teachers need to guide their students to success instead of outright instruct. Laura treats lessons like a conversation and collaboration. Through pointed questions, she helps the students take an active part in their learning for better understanding and success.
