About Me

I love the challenge of uncovering each student's special gifts -- I will help you find your unique way of expressing your love of music and we'll work together to customize a lesson plan that meets your needs. I believe in a solid foundation of basic skills and an understanding of theory and structure that will allow students to progress in their own way, whether that be with traditional repertoire, playing by ear and improvising, or even composing their own works. I can help with performance anxiety/techniques, audition prep, building repertoire and most of all having fun at the keyboard as a lifelong skill.

My Musical Education Background

I received my degree in Piano Performance from the University of Denver and have been a working professional musician and teacher in the Denver area ever since (that's 35+ years!}  I worked behind the scenes of Opera Colorado for more than 25 years, so my experience in the singing world ranges from international opera stars to working with beginning voice students locally. I belong to numerous professional organizations and forums where I can keep up to date on instructional trends and enhanced repertoire and method recommendations. Member MTNA, CSMTA, Denver Area MTA

Genres and Subjects Taught

I was primarily classically trained, but am equally at home playing or singing pop, musical theatre and contemporary styles. I believe a strong understanding of music theory, ear training and sight-reading will enhance any musician's abilities. I believe students can excel at written music or at playing by ear and improvising (preferably all of the above!) and each student's goals should dictate the emphasis placed on each facet of their learning.

Lesson Rates

Lessons will run $40 per half hour, $80 per hour.
