About Me
I have been performing on and teaching the violin for more than 35 years. I have been a member of the 1st violin section of the Portland Symphony Orchestra since 1989. I have performed with virtually every musical arts organization in New England including the Boston Symphony & Boston Pops Orchestra as well as with the Orchestra of St. Luke's in NYC. I have also played at major summer music festivals.
In addition to teaching privately, I have also taught or coached at the Sun Valley Music Festival, Rocky Ridge Colorado Music Center, New England Conservatory of Music Prepatory School, Northeastern University, Longy School of and and at Harvard University.

Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach classical violin & viola. I begin students in the Suzuki books but then expand into the the full range of repertoire. I give students real skills through a thorough grounding in string techniques using scales, etudes and method books. I also teach music theory and music history as needed.
Lesson Rates
My basic rate is $70/hr., prorated of course for shorter lessons.

My Musical Influences
I am grateful to my parents for their wonderful little chamber orchestra which met in our living room once a week when I was a child, to the San Francisco Boys Chorus, to Anne Crowden (founder of the nationally recognized Crowden Music Center), and to my other fantastic teachers, Stanley Ritchie, Malcolm Lowe & Joyce Robbins.
