About Me
I have been teaching piano in the Midwest and in Texas for more than 20 years. My degrees are in Piano Performance and Pedagogy and I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old, competing in many different competitions. Learning piano should be fulfilling and fun and that is my goal with my students. My students range from beginners to advanced levels. Most beginners start at age 6 or 7 but there are those that are ready at 4 years old. At any age, beginners learn to read music, rhythms, music theory and proper piano technique. The focus of adult beginners follows their musical interest as well as learning the fundamentals of music. My advanced students compete at regional and national competitions and enjoy playing a range of classical, contemporary and religious literature. Whether you want to play for fun or for competition, learning piano is a life long journey that can be enjoyed at any age.
I am currently on faculty at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie. I have taught at Indiana University (IUPUI), Anderson University (IN), and UT-Brownsville. I also founded the UTB Music Academy. I am a member of MTNA, TMTA, NFMC and TMEA. My students participate in the Arlington MTA activities. I have experience with many different types of students and love to have fun playing the piano with everyone!

Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach beginner to advanced levels of classical music. I incorporate music theory, note reading, rhythm exercises, and music history in the lessons as appropriate. It is important that the student has a good foundation and good technique so when they advance in the piano, it is smooth and even. Other types of activities are included as needed for the fun element of learning. Many life-skills are developed when learning a musical instrument, like perseverance, pursuit, enjoyment, and study.
Students take a lesson, once or twice a week, for 30 or 60 minutes, depending on the age and level of the student. Beginners usually start with 30 minutes. It is recommended that students have an acoustic piano at home. However, a good keyboard can be used for the first 6 months. Recommendations for a good keyboard or piano will be discussed to help you make a good purchase. Group Lessons are also available for ages 3-6 upon request.
I currently have several students taking lessons through Skype. Within certain criteria, this setup works well. So if you are outside the DFW area, we can also setup lessons through this technology.
Lesson Rates
We will first meet and have a free trial lesson to determine the best kind of lesson needed. Rates are determined at that time. Give me a call and we can discuss your future!
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
