About Me
Music has always been a big part of my life. My mother and two maternal aunts all play an instrument and 2 are professional musicians. I started learning to play piano when I was five years old. I live with my husband and pets in the Corner area of Alabama (near Warrior). I teach piano lessons in our home. I also play weddings and other events.
My Musical Education Background
I have been playing piano almost my entire life-since around 1990. I took private lessons for 11 years. I continue to learn every day-there is always more to learn! I began teaching in 2009.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I believe music should be fun! I teach all genres with an emphasis on the student's interests. Lessons include Theory, Technique, and Music History (again, with an emphasis on the student's interests and personal goals). Games at, and away from, the piano are often incorporated into my lessons.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I accept students of all ages (the youngest I have taught was three and a half years old). I teach beginner up to advanced skill level. I accept transfer and self-taught students, as well as complete beginners.
My Musical Influences
I took private lessons from a wonderful teacher who has since retired. She played and taught with joy. Piano lessons with her were always fun and a highlight of my week. I try to emulate her in bringing fun to the music for myself and my students. I grew up playing mostly Classical and listening to mostly Country music. I have since branched out to include all genres in my repertoire. I especially enjoy Movie scores (John Williams), Bach, 90's alternative, 50's & 60's pop, 70's Rock Ballads, and Hymns. My tastes in music are fluid and constantly expanding.
