About Me
I have been playing the piano since first grade and the violin since fifth grade. I have been teaching violin and piano lessons for more than eight years. I love helping my students grow and develop their musical talent. I am a very patient teacher, but I also push my students to do their best and to practice hard.
My Musical Education Background
I started music lessons when I was five and continued through high school and college. I graduated from Pensacola Christian College in May of 2015 with a bacholor's degree in Secondary Education (English and music emphasis). During college, I participated in the Rejoice church orchestra, the college symphony, and the Strings Ensemble. I completed my internship at Pensacola Christian Academy where I taught class piano, high school strings orchestra, and 3rd grade music theory.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach from a classical standpoint. I make sure the fundamentals are solid and that they are clearly understood by my students as they progress in their instrument. A solid foundation is essential to proper progress.
For piano, I start my beginners with the Faber piano method, which lays a strong foundation and which presents information in an exciting way for students. For more advanced students, we explore other classical books and pieces as well as hymn-playing for those interested. I incorporate music theory into my lessons and help my students understand how to identify and label chords properly.
For violin, I use Suzuki, Essential Elements, and other string methods, depending on age and skill level. Since the violin is such a precise instrument, I focus a lot on intonation and ear training. For more advanced students, we learn shifting and vibrato as we explore concertos, etudes, and other styles (such as hymns and fiddle).
