My Musical Education Background

I was student conductor as a high school senior, handling most rehearsals for the junior high choir that year. I was involved in large & small group contest, jazz band, concert band, choir, variety show & musicals, as a performer and accompanist over the years. I studied music at both Luther and Waldorf colleges, as well as taking some pedagogy classes at Wartburg.

Genres and Subjects Taught

My students will have many Christian pieces (especially the voice students) mainly because of my job as a church staff musician & choir director. I will help all my students gain a good basic understanding of music theory, harmony, and music-reading. Many genres will be available to my students, including standards/classics, jazz, classical, popular, modern, and (for voice students) foreign languages. This gives them an appreciation for all music instead of limiting their education!

Lesson Rates

$5 per half-hour lesson. $10 per hour lesson (7th grade & up, not required unless preparing for contest or college auditions)

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

All ages welcome, beginner through advanced. Students with challenges welcomed as well (have had success with autistic students especially). For younger students, ability to count and know alphabet plus be able to sit & cooperate for 20+ minutes necessary. A year of preschool or kindergarten generally creates this ability.

My Musical Influences

I've been fortunate to have worked with and learned from some of the most amazing musicians & teachers in our state. Dr. Ron Fox, Drs. Tim & Sandra Peter, and Weston Noble from Luther, Dr. Tom Hunt, Dr. Tim Schmitt, and Julie Anna Holtan from Waldorf, and Dr. Craig Hancock from Wartburg are among my mentors & teachers. I've also been blessed to learn alongside Kristin Wonderlich, Tana Field, and upcoming German opera great Ken Mattice. I've studied keyboard also with the amazing Marjorie Wharton, and organist/composer Nancy Farndale!
