About Me
A passion for music and the pleasure of helping my students discover their full musical potential inspire my teaching style. Experiencing the enjoyment of my students in making music at the piano is the source of my teaching energy!
I began teaching piano in high school as an assistant to my piano teacher. I have taught in my Eagan studio for 12 years. I love working with both children and young adults, and appreciate good communication with parents.
I strive to take into consideration the student's needs and goals in order to offer the most appropriate plan for his or her piano study.
I have served as an adjudicator for a local chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs.
My Musical Education Background
I hold an undergraduate degree in piano performance from The Univeristy of Wisconsin-Madison, and have studied piano pedagogy extensively. A graduate degree in music from The University of Minnesota (Minneapolis), and continued study and performance are attributes that refresh and enhance my teaching. I perform in recital frequently.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I employ a variety of traditional and current piano methods , but supplement with a variety of pieces that engage the student's interest while building keyboard and theory skills. Classical pieces may be the foundation of my approach, but folk, jazz, popular and various other contemporary styles are also strongly represented.
Lesson Rates

-half hour or hour lessons
-two (informal) recital annually and group performance class options

Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I have taught students of all ages (3 and up!), but most of my students are 2nd grade through high school.
Teaching eager beginners, helping young children to explore the next challenge, and assisting high school students in developing their artistry at the piano are equally enjoyable to me.
My Musical Influences
The principal teachers of my formative years, Mary Alice Rieder and Howard Karp in piano, and Jeanette Ross in piano pedagogy, offered me the framework for my musicianship at the piano and the inspiration for continued study and love of music. My influences also include the countless musicians and artists whom I have heard perform as well as the musician-colleagues with whom I work.
