About Me
Reuben D. Diamond, a musician and songwriter and Music Major in the Integrated Studies program at the University of Arizona, supports the music education system that raised him by continuing to inspire others to learn music. His teaching style is designed to introduce traditional music concepts and playing guitar by ear, including finger technique, chord structure, pedals, string bending, and selections from the vast song repertoire. There are no entrance requirements or auditions for children. Enrollment is dependent upon the parents’ full understanding of their responsibility and commitment.
American born, Reuben attended the Center for Global Studies magnet high school in Norwalk, Connecticut. He has learned three languages including Hebrew, Arabic, and Spanish. In his sophomore year of high school, Reuben was honored to be a foreign exchange student in Murcia, Spain, where he developed his taste for foreign culture and ethnomusicology, and has since traveled and studied in Rome and Jerusalem. Now Reuben is studying many facets of the current music industry in an integrated arts program which involves music business, production, and audio engineering.
Reuben’s most recent project includes the Paradigm Shift album, a collaborative effort which he plans to publish in March 2017.
My Musical Education Background
Starting with the Suzuki approach by listening and playing by ear, Reuben began formal violin training at the age of 3. He was enrolled in the Ridgefield Conservatory of Music and the Center Music School in Stamford, Connecticut where his mother was the Director of both. He studied with concert violinist Loretta Goudis, and played in the Stamford Youth Orchestra. He transitioned to acoustic guitar at age eleven and began training with acoustic rock n' roll artist John Cain, and later, folk rhythm & blues guitarist Matt Rae throughout his high school experience. Reuben began to play freely on guitar and eventually learned electric guitar as well. He was pulled into the world of blues, rock, and pop music. This is when he started writing his own songs, and playing with bands. Now Reuben is studying to compose for film at the University of Arizona.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Teaching Methods
Traditional CAGES approach to fundamentals in guitar, beginning with basic major and minor chord progressions. Once the students have these chords down along with a few basic strumming patterns, they will be able to play thousands of songs. Reuben will then allow the student to select songs to use the chords they have been practicing. He uses technology resources such as the internet to listen and loop music for improvisation and rhythmic practices. Reuben’s course is designed to provide a comprehensive musical education in guitar while also helping the student find their style with the instrument in a friendly environment. Reuben includes an introduction to music theory if the student is interested. His studio accepts students age six and up. There are no entrance requirements or auditions for children. Admission to the Studio is dependent on the parents’ full understanding of their responsibilities and commitments in this form of musical education.
Students may choose to study rock, pop, folk, acoustic, electric, or rhythm & blues guitar songs.
