About Me
While many of our students will be beginners, picking up the instrument for the first time, we will consider players at more advanced levels if we feel we can improve your playing and provide value. We want to help guitar players stay excited and motivated while learning the basics. We sit down with each student and go over their goals, expectations and their ability to practice in between lessons. We also try to fit the lessons based on the student's musical taste as well.
Sapulpa Guitar Academy is located in Downtown Sapulpa at 16 E. Lee Avenue in the LaFevers Building. Studio is open only during lessons and special appointment only. Please call or email in advance to confirm appointment.
My Musical Education Background
My name is Chris Atherton and I am the owner/instructor here at Sapulpa Guitar Academy.
I’ve been playing guitar for over 25 years. When I was a teenager, I just thought I would learn a couple of chords from my Dad and that would be it. However, I ended up progressing to the point where I was playing in both original and cover bands, church praise & worship, and even some touring experience opening for national touring acts. I’ve taught guitar lessons prior to opening this academy and I’ve also worked in public education as a Special Education Paraprofessional, Substitute Teacher and for Oklahoma DHS as a Youth Counselor.
My goal as your instructor is to help you overcome the common hurdles new guitarists face when picking up the instrument. The goal during the lessons is to have fun and to motivate you to keep practicing without assigning homework, journaling practice times, and turning lessons into an unenjoyable obligation.
Lesson Rates
First lesson is free. Additional lessons are $25 per half hour, $40 per hour.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Ideally students 10 & up, adults included. However I would consider younger with the right mindset.
