About Me
Dr. Stephanie Bethea loves to teach both flute and piano to all ages and levels. She has a recent doctorate in flute performance from the University of Washington, a masters degree in flute and conducting from Southern Seminary, and a BA with honors in music composition and flute from Smith College. Stephanie is principal flute of the Skagit Symphony and has soloed with them several times, as well as performing in many area events and church services. Stephanie has also been principal flute of the Skagit Valley Chorale, Skagit Opera, and the Richmond Symphony. Stephanie often adjudicates at Solo and Ensemble festivals throughout Washington State. She has studied flute with London Philharmonic flutist Josiah Thomas, principal New York Philharmonic flutist John Wummer, Seattle Symphony piccoloist Zart Domburian Eby and UW flute professor Donna Shin.
Stephanie has an extensive piano background, particularly in the field of accompanying. She has studied piano with Anne Liva, Monica Jacuk at Smith College, and Carole Terry at University of Washington. She has played piano with the Skagit Valley Chorale, Cantabile Singers, and Skagit Valley College choirs. Stephanie has been instructing in the Skagit Valley since 1987, teaching flute and piano privately and at Skagit Valley College.
FLUTE LESSONS cover tone, technique through etudes, solo work from the classical repertoire and student choices, and ensemble work. PIANO LESSONS cover scales and chords, collaborative playing, harmonizing by ear, and solo work from the classical repertoire.
Flute and piano recitals are held quarterly at the studio. All levels and backgrounds are welcome. Monthly tuition is $110 for half-hour lessons, double for hour music lessons. Deerland Flute Studio is on the Old Day Creek Road above Clear Lake, near Sedro Woolley. Looking forward to working with you!

Lesson Rates
Monthly tuition is $110 for half hour lessons, double for hour lessons. This includes 3 studio recitals per year. Winter studio break is the month of January, and summer break is July and August.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
- All levels, ages and backgrounds are welcome! My piano and flute students currently range from age 6 to senior adult, with backgrounds from beginner to highly advanced.

My Musical Influences
My musical influences are primarily classical, but also include worship music and a touch of the Chicago / Simon and Garfunkel era, with improvisation and a good dose of hard core music theory thrown in.
