About Me
I have wanted to be a music teacher since I can remember! At the age of 7 my grandmother gave me piano lessons until the age of 9 where I received formal lessons. I was also involved with the music at the church I attended by playing piano pieces and singing in the choir. I continued to pursue music throughout high school by accompanying the choir at my high school, and taking as many music classes as possible. My senior year I attended PATHS (Portland Arts and Technology High School) for music. After High School I attended the University of Maine in Orono and received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education, majoring in piano with a vocal track. I studied piano under Baycka Voronietsky, voice under Nancy Ogle, and organ under Kevin Birch. During my college years I played organ and piano at local churches, accompanying and directing both youth and adult choirs. I also played weddings and funerals and taught piano lessons at the University. I participated in Chamber music and sang in Athena Concort (female choir) and collegiate chorale. My last semester I received my teaching certification and participated in a 15 week internship teaching music at Hampden Academy in Hampden, Maine for Kindergarten-12th grade. After college I studied organ for 3 years with Ray Cornils and am currently studying the piano with Christine Kissack. I am currently the Minister of Music at Standish Congregational Church in Standish, Maine. There I have an inter-generational choir who loves to sing each Sunday! I also have a Children and Youth Choir that sings for 6 weeks during the summer and on special occasions throughout the year. After Services I also do music with the Elementary Age Children. I am a Kindermusik Certified Educator and teach 4 sessions of Kindermusik throughout the year (7-9 weeks each) which includes children ages newborn to 5. These are mommy/daddy and me family style classes that includes vocal play, listening activities, instrument play, finger play, song, dance, and pretend play. Classes are on either Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays from 10:00AM-10:45AM and have up to 7 families in a class. I also offer Preschool Piano Lessons and use a curriculum called "Wunderkeys". I'm extremely lucky to love what I do!
