About Me
I hold a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. I graduated cum laude with awards in both music theory and composition.
I feel it is important for students learn how to read and understand music in order to develop a lifetime skill and love of all music. Music has always made such perfect sense to me. It is easy for me to explain it to others. I run an efficient studio which includes a studio keyboard lab available before or after the private lesson and access to an at-home website game site for ear-training and theory study. I try to make music study fun and varied with games and incentives. I use the MTNA sponsored Music Achievement Award Program to document student growth. Students have opportunities for performance and composition. I teach year round.

I have maintained a successful private studio since, teaching all levels and ages, from 5 through adult.
In addition to teaching full-time, I also am an internationally published composer of teaching literature. Many of my pieces have won awards for composition and have been used on various contests lists and are available at (contact me).
I have given workshops in the U.S. and Canada on both piano literature and the use of composition in the studio to teach practical theory and creative musical thinking.
As a long time member of the national, state and local MTNA organizations, I served as president and adjudicate at area festival competition events.
In the summer we break from the lesson books to record student music on CD's and explore a particular area of music - for example -Duets or Popular music. I also offer a program for parents of students in the summer as a refresher or beginner course.
I now also offer mini courses in how to practice more effectively and also a refresher course for students wanting to return to or move further in their music study. I also have several students concentrating their study in composition and music theory. Study can easily be tailored to your specific need or interest.

I teach full-time, Monday through Friday. I offer both 30 and 45 minute lessons. I teach a wide variety of music and use a variety of lesson materials including many musical styles: Popular, Jazz, Composition, Classical, Duets Lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. All students progress at their own rate through a series of achievement skills including technic, theory, and sight-reading. Performance opportunies are offered, but are optional. *** Adult Lessons are more self directed. Adults choose the direction and literature they want to cover. We still get the basics in.

I am happy to offer an interview before signing up so that parents and students can see my studio and meet me before making a commitment.
When selecting a teacher from the internet, I think that is a very important step in the process.

45 minute lessons are $135.00 a month based on 4 forty five minute lessons a month.

Summer Lessons: I do teach lesson in the summer and am much more flexible. Students only pay for lessons they can attend during the summer.

I occasionally take a student under 6 if the parent is willing to practice with the student and attend lessons. A younger student requires more supervision to be successful.

My Musical Influences
My strong love for music teaching began as a teen. I began teaching piano under my teacher while in high school and continued teaching thoughout my college years. Sometimes you just know what you were meant to do, and it has always been that way for me with teaching. I continue to grow as a teacher by attending workshops, reading, talking with other teachers, listening and playing. I think we are always a student if we can continue to love learning. I know my students see that passion in my work and play with them. My hope is that they will continue to play and love music too.
