About Me

Hank Harrison studied music throughout high school and college (Polk State University and Florida State University), focusing on Music Theory and Jazz Studies.  He performed with various ensembles, including performance groups at Cypress Gardens and the Disney Theme parks.  He was also a solo performer at the historic Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Clearwater, Florida.  He has performed concerts all over the United States, including regular performances in Laughlin, Nevada casino venues and resort hotels in Orlando, Florida.  Hank was a national touring artist and educator representing Lowrey Organ Products for over 18 years.

Hank began teaching in 1982 and has been a sought-after instructor ever since.  His unique approach to piano and organ/keyboard has helped him develop a different style with students that keeps them learning music (music THEY love) quickly and maintains their interest and enthusiasm about the music learning experience.   He regularly teaches special workshops on playing “by ear” as well as music arranging and composition.

Hank also plays trombone, trumpet and tuba as well as actively composes and arranges music.  He has made many recordings and much of his music is available on CD through internet and other retailers.

My Musical Education Background

Hank began teaching in 1982 and has been a sought-after instructor ever since.  His unique approach to piano and organ/keyboard has helped him develop a different style with students that keeps them learning music (music THEY know!) quickly and maintains the  interest and enthusiasm about the learning experience.   He regularly teaches special workshops on playing “by ear” as well as music arranging and composition.

His focus in his teaching career is now on students that decide to learn to play as adults or teens.  His encouraging attitude and fun approach to the disciplines of music are what keeps students coming to him year after year.  He keeps lessons relevant and fun!

Hank was a key figure in a music study conducted by the University of Miami, the University of Kansas and the University of South Florida in 1994-1995 that set out to demonstrate that learning music, especially for senior adults, has measurable health and wellness benefits.  This study is quite well known in music education and music therapy circles.  The research validated the long-held belief among music industry professionals:

Music-making provides substantial health and wellness benefits to participants.   Hank was one of the key facilitators in the study and still participates in related studies and research to this day.

Hank also plays trombone, trumpet and tuba as well as actively composes and arranges music.  He has made many recordings and much of his music is available on CD through internet and other retailers.  He has present and past affiliations with many music industry companies and individuals, including:

Hank now teaches private and group music lessons at Central Music Studios, Clearwater, Florida.  He continues to perform music in select venues throughout the US.   His one son is a former high school drum major multi-instrumentalist and current recording musician.

AND FOR MUSIC STUDENTS INTERESTED IN PERSONALIZED, PRIVATE and ARCHIVE-ABLE LESSONS VIA INTERNET . . . . VIRTUAL MAESTRO!

VIRTUAL MAESTRO - Since early 2016, Hank has offered an all-new program for those whose schedule or ability to get to lessons males it difficult to get a music education.  The VIRTUAL MAESTRO program, cfreated by Hank, has been EXTREMELY successful.  There are Virtual Maestro students all over the world - Seattle, WA - London, UK - Longboat Key, FL - Toledo, OH - Nassau, Bahamas

SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

FIRST – Hank conducts a personal, phone or video interview with you to
determine WHAT you’d like to learn, WHERE you’re starting from and other
things about your musical tastes and other details.

THEN – In about a week after the interview, you’ll get an email with a summary
of the first lesson, along with attachments to download and print, usually music
or worksheets.

NEXT – In that email, there will be a link to a custom-made video on a YouTube channel that only you can access!

 Hank will present the lesson and SHOW as well as TELL what the
lesson is for that session – a lesson created JUST FOR YOU! AND, of
course, the video can be watched as many times as you want any day, any
time.

 Once a month or so, if needed, the student and teacher can have
“Facetime” live via Skype or FB Messenger to answer questions,
demonstrate techniques and hear your progress

 You can text or email Hank at any time if you have questions
about your lesson. He will answer at the earliest possible
opportunity.

NOTE:  THE VIRTUAL MAESTRO PROGRAM IS LIMITED, due to production time, etc.  The rates for this program are also different than standard lesson rates, as stated here:
  • This TOTALLY customized, archived and 24/7 accessible private lesson program is offered at the rate of $30 per lesson, provided the student signs up for a block of 4 lessons at a time. (4 - ½ hour sessions, once every other week). The lesson blocks are purchased at $120 and include all materials, set-up of personal YouTube channel, Facetime meetings and access to Hank’s personal contact information for “questions anytime.”
PLEASE CONTACT US TO CHECK AVAILABILITY IN THE VIRTUAL MAESTRO PROGRAM!!

Lesson Rates

Length and Frequency
Typically, weekly private lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes, but can sometimes last a little longer, depending on the material covered. Some students, because of scheduling conflicts, can only come in for a lesson every other week. In those cases, an hour-long lesson can be given.

Cost
Private lessons are $30 per half-hour lesson, if purchased separately. Students who pay for their lessons in 4-week blocks receive a $20 discount on that block. They pay $100 in week one for 4 lessons; essentially $25 per half-hour lesson
Hour long lessons are $60 each – or, if a four- lesson block of one hour lessons is purchased, that block is discounted $40. They pay $200 in week one for all four sessions.

Materials (Books and/or Music)
Students are expected to pay for their own teaching method books or songbooks, as needed. Depending on the personalized curriculum, this additional material may not be required initially, as we have a library of self-published material. It can be copied and used at no charge. If any printed material does need to be ordered, the student may get it themselves or the instructor can get it for the student. There is no additional fee (surcharge) for the instructor if they get the material for the student.

Scheduling
Lessons are taught on an established day and time each week; for example, Tuesdays at 3:30 PM. We understand that occasionally things arise that will require the lesson to be rescheduled for that week. We ask that students call the instructor to let them know if there is a conflict as soon as the student is aware of it, so that the lesson can be rescheduled. There is no missed appointment fee or rescheduling fee. We understand the occasional conflict in scheduling.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

I teach students ages 14- adult.  I have special certification for working with older adults as well.  My teaching system is music-based rather than method-book based, so younger children usually don't learn as well that way.
